Before I start with the comment, yes It is “Gran” without a “d”.
“Engrish” keeps invading the world, good that I already talk in that language.
Anyway, God knows how many references, and cameos Snowman does this time.
Why does this time? Well, let’s begin with the story of Snowman.
“Riverside” is one of those mixed circles that produces all kind of arranges. Let it be pop, tehcno, and even some folk.
But anyway, they have always a spot saved for a crazy guitarist called Riverside. Since the first time I heard him, what caught my biggest attention was his incredible technique. Sweep picking, tapping, clean notes, perfect bends, speed of light. What technique you want? Name it, and Snowman should do it for you.
As more songs made by Snowman kept popping out, I started to notice something else.
You see, it is no wonder why he has such a technique, and what does Snowman is aiming at. I can name many, but surely John Petrucci (and the whole Dream Theater crew) and Kiko Loureiro (Angra) are one of his biggest influences, that is if they aren’t the top ones.
So Snowman always take pieces of songs from this artist, and copy them the best he cans, to develop around a Touhou arrange. Pretty smart huh? And pretty difficult too I bet. For instance, let us take a song of Dream Theater. You name it, how about…”The Root of All Evil”. Now analyze what instrument is doing what on that mindmelting band, and then develop another composition adding parts of Touhou songs.
It is impossible, but sometimes, impossible it is just possible.
So, back to the beginning, in this song I can clearly listen to references to Dream Theater. I can’t name exactly the song, but I’m sure of it. Also, the sweep picking of Angra’s “Carry On” is quite obvious. I challenge you to found it.
What I liked a lot of this album, is that Snowman does half of it. I guess Riverside understands that Snowman is a very big important artist for them. Still, I would love to listen Snowman in an own independent circle. Who knows, maybe he can even fix that mixing and EQ problem that is quite obvious in here.
I think this is the best song of the album, Snowman sure makes justice to what arrange means. He develops a whole new idea of Satori’s theme, that fits perfect for the battle against her, my only doubt is, what the he was thinking with that “neo-classical-jazzy” improvisation at the middle of the song? God knows, it is progressive metal rock baby, and time ago I decided that analyze it, can be the work of a lifetime.
Snowman is without a doubt, one pillar of this channel, and as long as this channel remains, Snowman will be always welcome to all the western ears.

Doesn’t sound too …
Doesn’t sound too much like the original song except for a few bits here and there, which isn’t bad at all if it sounds great.
Although I praise it, I must say that nazz-can had already blew my mind open with his arrange of 3rd eye so maybe my thoughts on this arrange may be a bit biased or less that what it should be.
