Here Shawn Lane plays a beautiful improvised Guitar Solo at the Sushi Community Centre, San Diego, on the 25th Jan 2001. He played this gig with Jonas Hellborg, Selvaganesh, Vikku Vinayakram, Umashankar and U. Shrinivas.
I’ve been asked a number of times for this recording as an mp3, so here it is :

Hey,guys,a funny thing happened…While I was watching this video,my mom came near me,looked at the monitor, and said:”I was at his concert.”I was like:”Yeah,right..”She asked for the name of this performer and I told her the name. She said that she remembers his name, apperance and playing. She actually witnessed this guys incredible guitar mastery while she was in the USA(a bussiness trip). Now I feel something that I thought I would never feel towards my mother-jelaousy.

R.I.P. Shawn Lane. …
R.I.P. Shawn Lane. He is my favourite player right up there with Jason Becker. Why do 2 geniouses of music be cursed with bad health. Shawns dead and Jasons barely alive with that terrible affliction ALS. I t breaks my heart to know that they could both have accomplished so much more in music.

I can see now why I have been hearing a lot about this guy lately. So clean, so fast and makes it look fun and easy like VanHalen does when you saw him in video back in the day.

“We’re all entitled …
“We’re all entitled to our opinion of what we like…. what on earth does that have to do with you??” I guess “all” includes me.. so that’s your answer to what it has to do with me.. imagine not being allowed to utter any disaproval.. people wouldn’t be exposed to different ways of thinking .. in this case the playing of S. Lane.. if you, who seems to be religiously enthousiastic about Lane, have a problem with it you can remove my comments since you uploaded the clip. No hard feelings

We’re all entitled …
We’re all entitled to our opinion of what we like…. what on earth does that have to do with you??
To my ears (that have been listening to guitar for 25 years now) Shawn plays with awesome rythmical concept, as does JM.
I never understood people like you… if you don’t like a piece of music, what really COMPELLS you to HAVE to leave a negative comment?? If it’s not your thing (like it IS for many others), then just move on to the next thing, instead of making insults. Simple.

wtf is up with the …
wtf is up with the hyperbole comments when it comes to S. Lane? he never played with a sense of rythm.. it’s just .. wizzywizzywizzyvlobobododobodobodododododyyyy.. without any rythmical concept behind it… it’s what makes indian music fun to listen to.. I prefer J. Mclaughlin (in this kind of fusion) cause he actually did study the rythmical patterns of indian music and what makes a raga etc.. here I’m only hearing a guy mimicking indian flavoured sounds.. it’s over indulgent kitsch..
