Missing the point- Guitar hero shredding vs what to play

17th September

Many players when they are beginning, just want to play fast.

There is nothing wrong with this, hey its kind of fun, but playing fast just for the sake of playing fast will get you nowhere, except staying in your moms bedroom.

Seriously, in the world of real professional musicians there are always people that can play fast, but many of them fail to get and keep gigs because they ignored factors other than speed which are actually much more important.

What are those factors?

They are myriad depending on the style of music and the situation, but no matter what the gig is, whether it is your origionals, a big stadium, or the holiday inn, one of the biggest is your TIME. Seriously, you are playing solos maybe 5 percent of the time (10 percent if you are Nigel Tufnel from spinal tap) and the other 90-95 percent of the time you are playing rythm of some sort. You gotta lock with the drums, bass, dj and whoever you are playing with, or it won’t matter one bit that you can play a zillion miles an hour.

Shredding is a lot of fun but is a bit of a trap. I have seen a lot of players on youtube playing amazing things, but they are really not paying attention to what they should play, as opposed to playing some notes fast.

In my book playing something interesting is what I am concentrating on now, although we all have our old habits we fall back into :)

So my point is, play something interesting, whether it is slow, medium, or whatever. David Gilmour is not a shredder by any stretch of the imagination, yet he captivates people with sometimes just a few notes. Get the magic. Do it now.

http://stevysound.com rips a frank gambale sweep like a big dog

2nd September

This is just an excerpt the incorporates baseless sweeping where it really doesn’t fit the song whatsoever in the style of frank gambale and my other guitar playing heros. Thanks for watching!

Reflekt Feat Delline Bass – Need To Feel Loved (Adam K & Soha Mix)(Arcdsa Videoremix)

30th September

Reflekt is a dance/electronica outfit out of England. The act consists of DJ/remixer/producers Seb Fontaine and Jay Peake (aka Jay P.), with Delline Bass doing vocals.

The act is well known for their 2004 international club hit “Need To Feel Loved”, which reached number 1 on the British Dance Chart. That song, which samples the theme from the song “Ghosts” from the 2003 movie “The Road To Perdition,” is featured in the 2005 British/Canadian film “It’s All Gone Pete Tong.” In 2006 the act returned with a followup, “Shine.”

It’s All Gone Pete Tong is a 2004 Canadian fictional independent mockumentary about Frankie Wilde (Paul Kaye), a DJ who goes completely deaf. The title is a reference to a rhyming slang phrase used in Britain in the 2000s, referring to the BBC Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong, standing for “it’s all gone wrong”. Like the similar mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, the film takes measures to appear non-fictional, but Frankie Wilde himself is a fictional character.

The film was released on April 15, 2005. The DVD was released on September 20, 2005. In 2005, it won two awards at the US Comedy Arts Festival for Best Feature and Best Actor (Paul Kaye) and swept the Gen Art Film Festival awards (Grand Jury and Audience). It was filmed on location in Ibiza and shot entirely in HD.

Several famous DJs appear in the film as “talking heads”, giving the film a false sense of authenticity. Carl Cox, TiĆ«sto, Sarah Main, Barry Ashworth, Paul van Dyk, Lol Hammond, Pacha and Pete Tong appear in the film. Ibiza locations used in the movie include Pacha, Amnesia, Privilege and DC10 as well as the historical Pike’s Hotel.

Lyrics

Come catch me, babe.
I’m fallin’.

Come and save me, baby.
I’m callin’.

Come and be with me, babe.
Come as you are.

Come catch a fire, babe.
Don’t let me fade away.
Don’t let me fade away.

Come catch a feelin’.
It’s electrifyin’ me.
Eyes wide open.
I’m dreamin’.

Free fallin’ baby.
Awake before I’m back.
Free fallin’ baby.
Awake before I’m back.
Awake before I’m back.
Awake before I’m back.
Awake before I’m back.
Awake before I’m back.

Come and touch me baby.
I need to be loved.
And come hold me babe.
I need to feel loved.
I need to feel loved.

And come catch a fire.
Don’t let me fade away.
Come catch a fire, babe.
Don’t let me fade away.
Come catch a feelin’.
It’s electrifyin’ me.
Eyes wide open.
I’m dreamin’.

Free fallin’ baby.
Awake before I’m back.
Free fallin’ baby.
Awake before I’m back.

Come and touch me, baby.
I need to be loved.
And come hold me babe.
I need to feel loved.

Come and touch me, baby.
I need to be loved.
And come hold me, babe.
I need to feel loved.
I need to feel loved.
I need to feel loved.
I need to feel loved.

Thank you very much to xieupwn for the lyrics.

This 2009 the song has been remixed by the amazing Djs “Adam K” & “Soha”. And the remixes will be released soon and they can be bought in many online stores.

A little bit of a strange mix but that’s the way i like it.
in the beginning i play some arpeggios in the style of my favorite guitar players Becker and Friedman.
They opened so many doors for me when i was young.
I started listening to strange japanese music and also modern classical composers.
I know some people hate this style but i don’t care.I just play.
On the other hand there is a player i almost
forgot about.David Gilmour from Pink Floyd.
In the last year i was non stop working on my guitar teaching so at one day i was so exhausted. There i remembered that i always loved the solos and the mood of this great band and listened back.
This was just great and it helped me to get relaxed again.
hope you like the fast and the slow.
See you all my friends!
