MADNESS ?? Touhou Progressive Classic 118
Oct 18, 2011 amazing violin solos
Title: The Dance of Eternity
Artist/Circle: t=NODE
Album: Channel†Node?
Originals: ??????1969 (Voyage 1969), ?????????? (Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke) & ???? ? Invisible Full Moon (Lunatic Eyes ~ Invisible Full Moon)
As I promised here’s more t=NODE, this time a medley of 3 IN themes from their latest album.
I advise to go with caution with this arrange, as the mood changes might not be in your cup of tea, or the instruments these guys are using here.
I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again, t=NODE is practically a circle that surprised me big time, their older releases are plagued with some other mediocre songs but have some nice jewels (that Reisen arrange 2 videos ago), but these guys seriously surprised me big time in their latest 2 releases. This album is… a masterpiece. What these guys did here was combine classic arranges with a lot of “progressive” changes reminiscing a lot of big classical artists (Bach here, but there’s more). The album is actually supposed to be listened to as one big track (thus the almost unnoticeable part in the beginning that sounds like a previous song).
What I think t=NODE was going for in this album was something I’d categorize as “Progressive Classical” music if it existed, the sudden mood changing, the usage of a wide array of sounds at sudden moments, the fact that the whole album is supposed to somewhat tell a whole “story”.
Darn, I wonder why there’s not more stuff like this around.
Commenting on the arrange, all I have to say is that I’m speechless.
The organ solo starting from around 1:22 (and particularly 1:57) is one of the most amazing parts of the song, I’m surprised by how many arranges of Reisen’s theme use organs (the last one has an organ part too, if you guys didn’t realize it, and so did Kokuyasou’s arrange on Chaos’ channel). And, even if it’s slight, the usage of those choruses are killer

Another part of the arrange I like a lot is both at 3:15, when the piano shredding kicks in (I wonder who’s their pianist/keyboardist is, if it’s RD-Sounds I’ll go and give those guys a kiss, seriously, listen to the piano-work carefully, it’s done extremely well), and at 3:28 when the an electronic beat kicks in, followed by more organs, seriously, I find that part extremely badass. Any objections on the drums? I’ve gotten used to them, but they might scare some people away.
Lastly the violins, I think it’s perfect. The violin, the viola, every string instrument used in this arrange.
The very thought of combining Reisen’s theme with Voyage 1969 and Immortal Smoke is madness.
Last but not least, since I’ve got your ATTENTION, I wanted to ask you guys something:
Since I consider the piano one of the best instruments on the face of mankind I wanted to dedicate a set of 10 videos ranging from 121-130 dedicated to piano arranges. Not just ANY piano arranges, the good ones, listen to the piano arranges I’ve uploaded so far, if you like those then that’s what I want to feature. You guys should know which song is the one I want to dedicate the whole compilation to.
So, practically I’ll hold a vote, whoever wants the compilation to be held say so in the comment, whoever does not, say so in a comment.
Of course I could hold it regardless from the votes but that is not something I want to do, since this is not just my playlist, but it’s all of ours, you guys are as much of a part of Merlin as I am.
Thanks for watching!

Small Video with Chapman Stick Hands on Top playing on a Keyboard Stand made for Jan van Kelst’ s Kelstone Hot Contest. The Chapman Stick was originally Made by Emmet Chapman to play in an upright position like Tony Levin or Bob Culbertson does. Jan Van Kelst developed the hands on top technique where you play on top of the Strings. I also saw many guitar players like Andy McKee, Tommy Emmanuel or stanley jordan or bass players like John Myung or Jean Baudin using the tapping technique on their instruments always grabbing around the neck but the first guy where I saw it with hands on top was a youtube video called “Air Tap” of Erik Mongrain. He did nice stuff especially to get out the harmonics. I like the idea. The tune that I’m playing is a folk tune made by Alexander Meyen (www.violalex.de) that I played with the Loop String Project years ago where we also did a lot of live looping. There is also a video with the band!

Every sound you hear was created by Steve playing his acoustic cellos (with one exception — a subtle “hi-hat” noise made by his voice).
The Cello Song is based on one of the most recognizable classical pieces ever written, J.S. Bach’s Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1: Prelude. (Hint: Say Bach’s title with an English accent and it sounds a lot better). It’s been featured in a lot of movies (and car commercials)…Steven Sharp Nelson decided that this piece needed some accompaniment (Bach must have been busy and never got around to it?
Adding some original material and 7 more cello parts stacked on top of each other, Steve has created a cool new sound that embellishes all the features that have made Bach’s work so popular. The 7 new parts include drawn-out melodies which soar above fast arpeggios, strumming chords from a guitar-like part, shaker sounds (accomplished by rubbing the sides of the cello), tremolo (1:08-1:24), and a cello-banging percussion part (complete with kick drum).
“Bach was an amazing composer — one of the best that ever lived. He wasn’t the greatest with titles though (smile)… As a consequence, no one can ever remember his Cello Suite’s name…so when I’m asked to perform his piece people always say, ‘hey, can you play that … um … that cello song?’ And so in Bach’s honor I name this adaptation of his amazing composition after what it has been naturally called for hundreds of years. Thanks for listening!” -Steven Sharp Nelson
You may know Steve from his work with the amazing Pianist Jon Schmidt on tunes such as “Michael Meets Mozart” and “Love Story Meets Viva La Vida.” Please check out those videos and visit Jon Schmidt’s site: www.jonschmidt.com
