“Go the Distance (Hercules)” – Rendezvous Quartet (Live in the Studio)

Please watch in HD!

My quartet Rendezvous had the pleasure of recording a 7 song EP in October of 2009 here in Toronto. My older sister Sarah, a Ryerson University media student, was able to secure us some studio time as well as coordinate and co-produce the session along with myself.

“Go the Distance” is from Disney’s “Hercules” and was written by Alan Menken. It was adapted for barbershop by Aaron Dale and made famous by the quartet “Vocal Spectrum”. Danny transcribed the recording in the winter of 2008 and it has become a crowd favourite at our shows!

Bass : Calvin Frank (mrcalvinfrank)
Baritone : Andrew Kesler (andrewkesler)
Lead : Brodie Cuff (brodiecuff)
Tenor : Danny Fong (daniscool99)

Working in the booth along with my sister was our good friend and amazing drummer Tristan Henderson (check him out in my videos of “Nardis” and “In the Beginning”). Tristan engineered the session and did most of the mixing along with myself. The final mixes of all the tunes were completed in early February and I’ve been slowly working away on the videos when i’ve had time.

*If you’re interested in getting your hands on mp3s of our work, feel free to send me a private message and I’ll get back to you!*

Equipment used:
Blue Bottle (Danny), Neumann TLM 103 (Brodie), Neumann TLM 49 (Calvin), Blue Berry (Andrew)

NOT SHOWN: 2 Apex 435’s placed in opposite room corners for Stereo effect, and a large diaphragm condenser mic placed high up in the center of the room. Note: The room was TERRIBLE for barbershop singing, which was a bit of a drag, but we did it anyways.

Recorded and mixed on Protools 8. Video shot with some random nice camera (it was dark in the room so I lightened it so it looks kinda grainy). Video edited with Final Cut Pro. NO PITCH CORRECTION OF ANY KIND USED! What you’re seeing is what you’re hearing. EQ, Compression, Limiting, Reverbs (long and short) and other such plug-ins used, as well as volume automation.

*Don’t forget to rate and subscribe and comment and all that. We’d really appreciate if you’d share this with your friends and family because we don’t make any money doing this and it takes lots of work, so getting some extra exposure helps out a lot!*

Thanks, and enjoy!

PS22 Chorus “DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’” by JOURNEY

http://ps22chorus.blogspot.com

Another request from the kids (Elijah and Jared, the soloist on “Eye Of The Tiger”), and even from some PS22 Chorus fans too. The song, Don’t Stop Believin’ is an eighties classic, and the fifth grade chorus extraordinaire deliver some rather outstanding harmonies to recreate it into something different and pretty darn special! Another surprise favorite of the year! And soloist Elijah gives Steve Perry a run for his money, doing a rockin’ job with his amazing talent!

According to i-Tunes, Journey’s “signature song, ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, is the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history, at more than two million downloads”. Maybe this will help score a few more…. :)

Should be noted that Journey once included American Idol judge Randy Jackson on bass and background vocals, although he came into the group after the release of this mega-hit.

Again, according to Wikipedia, the song has appeared in a number of film and television series, including The Wedding Singer, Family Guy, Monster, Shrek the Halls, Bedtime Stories, Yes Dear, The Comebacks, View from the Top, South Park, Cold Case, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, My Name Is Earl, Just Shoot Me, Laguna Beach, American Idol, Scrubs, The Sopranos, and Glee

PS22 Chorus VIVA LA VIDA by Coldplay acoustic guitar version

http://ps22chorus.blogspot.com

The PS22 Chorus of 2009 has some fun with Coldplay’s Grammy nominated song Viva La Vida, the amazing new hit single from the album of the same name. Hope it sweeps the Grammies! I love watching them sing this one, and it has kind of a different sound and feel on the guitar than the previously posted piano and acapella versions, so I thought it merited YouTubeage…. :)

April sings the solo and sounds better than ever on this one.

The PS22 Chorus consists of about 60 fifth graders and have sung with Tori Amos, Crowded House, among many others. Visit our above website to find out more about these amazing New York City public school kids.

Coldplay’s new album comes highly recommended, featuring the songs:

01 Life in Technicolor
02 Cemeteries of London
03 Lost!
04 42
05 Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love
06 Yes
07 Viva la Vida
08 Violet Hill
09 Strawberry Swing
10 Death and All His Friends
