Michael Jackson Beat It from the album THRILLER
Released in 1982, the Quincy Jones-produced Thriller refined the strengths of Off the Wall; the dance and rock tracks were more driving, the pop tunes and ballads softer and more soulful, and all of it was recognizably Michael. Jackson brought in Paul McCartney for a duet, guitarist Eddie Van Halen for a jaw-dropping solo, and Vincent Price for a creepy recitation. It was no surprise that Thriller was a hit; what was a surprise was its staying power. Jackson’s duet with McCartney, “The Girl Is Mine,” was a natural single choice, and it peaked at number two; then “Billie Jean” and the Van Halen track “Beat It” both hit number one, for seven and three weeks respectively. Having never really accepted black artists in the past, MTV played the clips to death, garnering massive publicity for Jackson and droves of viewers for the fledgling cable network. Jackson sealed his own phenomenon by debuting his signature “moonwalk” dance step on May 16, 1983, on Motown’s televised 25th anniversary special;

Showing no signs of slowing down, Thriller just kept spinning off singles, including “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” the airy ballad “Human Nature,” and “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)”; in all, seven of its nine tracks wound up in the Top Ten, obliterating conventional ideas of how many singles could be released from an album before it ran its course. Thriller stayed on the charts for over two years, spent 37 nonconsecutive weeks at number one, and became the best-selling album of all time; it went on to sell 25 million copies in the U.S. alone, and around another 20 million overseas. Naturally, Jackson won a slew of awards, including a record eight Grammys in one night, and snagged the largest endorsement deal ever when he became a spokesman for Pepsi (he would later be burned in an accident while filming a commercial). At the end of 1983, Jackson was again on top of the singles charts, this time as part of a second duet with McCartney, “Say Say Say.” In 1984, Jackson rejoined his brothers one last time for the album Victory, whose supporting tour was one of the biggest (and priciest) of the year. The following year, he and Lionel Richie co-wrote the anthemic “We Are the World” for the all-star famine-relief effort USA for Africa; it became one of the fastest-selling singles ever.

Put this in the category of “this will never happen again in our lifetime,” but I was amazed to find that Eddie Van Halen recorded the solo for Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” for free.
The solo is a perfect example of the amazing nuance
Eddie Van Halen can bring to a guitar part with what was, at that time, groundbreaking technique.

Yoda is portrayed as a powerful Jedi Master in the Star Wars universe. Series creator George Lucas originally wished Yoda to follow his other characters in having a full name: Minch Yoda, but instead opted to have many details of the character’s life history remain unknown. Yoda’s race has never been stated in any media, canonical or otherwise, and he is merely stated to be of a “species unknown” by the Star Wars Databank. Yoda often speaks in Object Subject Verb word order.

Yoda later leads an army of Jedi and clone troopers in the film’s climactic battle scene. He helps rescue Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padmé from execution at the hands of the Separatists. At the climax of the battle, Yoda duels with Separatist leader and Sith Lord Count Dooku (Christopher Lee), his former Jedi apprentice. Although seemingly frail, the ancient Yoda demonstrates agility and mastery of lightsaber combat and acrobatics through the Force. This confrontation ends with Dooku making his escape by threatening Yoda’s injured comrades, Anakin and Obi-Wan.[5]

During the opening of the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars, Yoda is made a General, like many of the Jedi Knights and Masters. Yoda escorts Padmé on their journey to an unspecified planet, but Yoda senses several Jedi in distress on Ilum. Using the Jedi mind trick to convince Captain Typho to take them to Ilum, Yoda saves two Jedi Knights and finds a message from Count Dooku giving orders to destroy the Jedi Temple on Ilum.
In the animated series’ final episode, Yoda fights side by side with Mace Windu to defend Coruscant, which is under attack from the Separatists. The two Jedi Masters realize that the battle is a distraction; Separatist leader General Grievous truly intends to kidnap Chancellor Palpatine. Windu goes onto a Clone Hangar to try and prevent the kidnapping, but is too late. And so it is from this point that the events of “Revenge of the Sith” unfold.
Yoda acts as a Jedi General in the Dark Horse Clone Wars tie in comic books, as well. During the CGI Clone Wars series, Yoda defeats a squad of droids by himself, as well as running many other missions.
Revenge of the Sith

In Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, set 22 years after Revenge of the Sith, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) arrives on Dagobah to seek Yoda’s guidance. This happens after Luke is instructed to do so, by the Force-ghost of Obi-Wan
Rather than immediately identifying himself, Yoda tests Luke by initially presenting himself as a comical, backwater individual, deliberately provoking both Luke and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker). Finding that Luke exhibits many of the flaws that led to his father’s downfall, Yoda is reluctant to teach him in the ways of the Force, but agrees to do so at the spectral Obi-Wan’s behest. Prior to finishing his training, however, Luke chooses to leave Dagobah in order to confront Darth Vader and save his friends from the Empire’s grasp at Bespin. Yoda and Obi-Wan insist to Luke that he is being lured into a trap, and that he must stay to complete his training. Luke refuses to forsake his friends, but gives Yoda his promise to return. As Luke departs, Obi-Wan laments that the boy is their “last hope”, but Yoda reminds him that “there is another. Return of the Jedi
Yoda’s final chronological appearance is in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, set a year after The Empire Strikes Back. Yoda, sick and greatly weakened by old age, informs Luke that he has completed his training but will not be a Jedi until he confronts Darth Vader; he also confirms that Vader is Luke’s father, which the Sith Lord had told a shocked Luke in the previous film. Yoda then dies at the age of 900, his body disappearing as he becomes “one with the Force”. He leaves Luke with the knowledge that “there is another Skywalker.” Moments later, Obi-Wan’s Force ghost helps Luke come to the realization that the sibling Yoda spoke of is none other than Leia (Carrie Fisher).
In the film’s final scene, after the Empire has been defeated, Luke sees Yoda’s spirit looking upon him with pride, alongside Obi-Wan and the redeemed Anakin Skywalker.

“Eruption” is an instrumental guitar solo by Van Halen from their first album, Van Halen. Written and primarily performed by Eddie Van Halen, this electric guitar solo showcase is considered one of the most influential rock instrumentals of all time, appearing on many ‘greatest guitar solos’ lists, including a recent Guitar World poll.[1] On the radio, it is usually played together with “You Really Got Me,” which follows the song on the album Van Halen.

Eruption starts with a short accompanied introduction with brother Alex Van Halen on drums and Michael Anthony on bass. The highlight of the solo is the use of fretboard tapping. Eruption was played on the Frankenstrat, with a phaser. A 1960s Marshall tube amp, an Echoplex, a Univox echo box, and studio plate reverb helped define the distinctive tone of the track. The Frankenstrat was tuned a half-step down from regular guitar tuning. Eruption begins in the key of A flat and ends on a E flat note that is a twelfth fret, 6th string harmonic processed through a Univox echo box effect and lowered an octave by an Echoplex.
The Eruption introduction is based on “Let Me Swim” by Cactus [3]. Later in the introduction, an E-flat major quotation of the Etude No. 2 by Rodolphe Kreutzer is heard. The piece that would later be named Eruption had existed as part of Van Halen’s stage act at least as far back as 1976, when it initially featured no tapping. 1 Eruption popularized the guitar tapping trend of the 1980s. Although one-handed tapping (hammer-ons and pull-offs) had been previously done by many guitarists, Van Halen introduced two-handed tapping to the mainstream popular rock audience. The main tapping part of Eruption uses a chord structure and style similar to Baroque Music. Similarly, Baroque-like tapping had been recorded by Steve Hackett of Genesis in 1971 1972.
Initially, Eruption was not considered a song for Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen used it as a studio warm up; however, producer Ted Templeman overheard the solo and asked that it appear as a track on the album. Eddie recalled “I didn’t even play it right. There’s a mistake at the top end of it. To this day, whenever I hear it I always think, ‘Man, I could’ve played it better.’”[4]
Spanish Fly, an acoustic instrumental on Van Halen II, can be viewed as a nylon-string version of Eruption, expanding on similar techniques. Similarly, it was suggested by Templeman for inclusion on the album after he heard Eddie Van Halen playing a classical guitar. In March 2005, Q magazine placed “Eruption” at number 29 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. “Eruption” has also been named the 2nd greatest guitar solo by Guitar World magazine.
The song is featured in Guitar Hero: Van Halen and is considered one of, if not the, most difficult songs in the game.
