Iron Maiden’s Aces High. It’s been years since I covered a Maiden song so I thought it was about time!
I tried some new things out in this video – I tried to learn the guitar solos as they’re played rather than improvise them. I also tried a little bit of tapping. Not easy with one hand! Let me know what you think of these things.
Apologies about the light in the background. I don’t know why it was so bright. I closed my curtains and put more light around me to try and compensate.

Adrian Frederik “H” Smith (born February 27, 1957 in Hackney, East London, England) is a songwriter and one of three guitarists/songwriters in the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Smith and Dave Murray combined playing dual lead guitars helping to forge the trademark sound of Iron Maiden. Some notable dual lead solos are “2 Minutes To Midnight”, “Alexander the Great” and “Rime Of The Ancient Mariner”. Notable solitary solos include “Wasted Years”, “Stranger in a Strange Land” and “The Wicker Man”. Adrian’s solos are usually composed rather than improvised. His legato playing is very smooth and fast, and typically even his very fast passages have a musical function and relationship to the chord structure behind the solo, drawing from modes and arpeggios which are more often from the blues licks. Adrian is one of the most accomplished metal guitarists of this age. Adrian has evolved a tone and style that is all his own and is unique. Nobody sounds like Adrian, and that is priceles
