Lamb of God – In Your Words Guitar Cover

Info:
Lamb of God have become one of the most popular modern metal bands in the world, a popularity well deserved for their unique “groove metal” sound. I also consider Mark Morton to be one of the hardest working guitarists on the metal scene currently, and love his style of combining pure American metal with blues solos. Whilst this song isn’t that hard by LoG’s standards, it still sounds good and was a lot of fun to play.

Techniques/Tips:
- The whole song doesn’t have any triplets, and besides the breakdown, has a fairly constant alternative picking motion.
- The breakdown has a timing of 3/4, but it isnt that hard

About the helmet:
It was made of papier-mâché with a custom LED visor built in … post production! using Softimage XSI and Adobe After Effects! Yes, it was a visual effect! 3D modeling, manual rotoscoping, and motion tracking/motion stabilization tricks were employed to pull this off. A LED array with animated text was projected on to a manually rotoscoped 3D visor, that was subsequently composited with the original footage using motion trackers in After Effects. The helmet itself took three days to make. I used 7 layers of card stock/normal stock paper strips in a special heavy mix paste recipe. The shape was built around a custom mold of shipping foam and gaffers tape. It was finished off with gunmetal grey paint. The visor was made of plastic cut from a microwave oven splash cover I found at Target for 5 dollars, laminated on both sides with Limo dark auto window tinting. I could see out, but the translucent plastic from the microwave splash cover along with the heavy tinting made it a little bit difficult. On the inside, the helmet was padded with custom cut felt blocks to fit my head size perfectly. The total weight was around 0.5 Kg (about 1 pound).

This video was made for love. Please share it.

“Please support melodic guitar music from Germany and send the video around” Thank you! :
I’m not able to send my videos in the moment…
very strange!

Take a look at my guitar collection: http://www.myspace.com/shredgitarrefreiburg

Welcome to my melodic guitar world:

Part 1:
Kicks of with some fast runs in the Style of Joe Tafolla.

1. Here is a little Mixolydian melody with a lot of slides.
Here i use the John Petrucci Ibanez No.1

2. A very simple melodic statement played on my Joe Satriani guitar. Here i use the eventide eclipse.

3. Once again a nice melody and the some soloing with the legato technique.
Here i use my white Steve Vai jem and a POD 1.

4. after a little sweeping arpeggio a nice little melody happens.
I was just jamming around and suddendly it was there…
Everytime i pick up the guitar i let the camera running..
you never know what will happen..

5 fender stratocaster abuse!
This is me jamming on a Sunday morning and having fun with my Malmsteen strat.
Yngwie was the reason why i started playing guitar in the 80th.

To end the first part some little blues and melodic phrases over a Gary Moore backing track!

Part 2:
This video was removed from youtube because it was not accepted as a partnervideo.
So here is it again.
If you had already watched it just stop .

Here is a journey though different guitar styles and sounds. It goes from really “easy” pentatonic playing to hyperspeed shred but for me it’s all the same. I just love to play!! So grab your guitars, put on a backingtrack and play!! Improvise and play your stuff. “Don’t be copycats”

1.Intro just a little melody played on my flowerpower Jem

2. Melodic jam over an Toto or Whitesnake backingtrack. very simple playing. Here i use an Digitech Brian May Pedal combined with Eventide Eclipse

3. Prelude Vinnie Moore style Picking over an Harmonic Minor chord progression check Time Odyssey or Minds Eye I grew up with the phrygian major sound and still love to to use it. This was part of a video i did just for myself: mystery jam There i shredded like crazy and then make a duel with my midi guitar.( I though it was too crazy to upload it…)

4. Melodic Jam over an Bon Jovi Backingtrack. Here i use once again the Brian May Pedal with the eclipse This solo was totally improvised I’m very happy about this solo and the guitar sound.

5. Laid back style.. So simple guitar playing….but it’s fun also Here i use a Digitech Jimmy Hendrix Pedal. This i just a demonstration with how less you can achieve a nice sound. i thought this could be a good contrast to the hyperspeed playing..

6. Terror shred guitar Here i jam against a John Petrucci loop. I love the Ibanez John Petrucci guitar…. Lots of fast picking and stringskipping.

7. slow playing with my midi guitar Here i use a VG-88 from Roland. the chords are in the style of Yngwie Malmsteen.

8. Farewell This is just a melody to say goodby. I make a task for myself to write a melody over every chordprogression that i find.. This is big fun. I hope you like this little journey. Once again everything happens on the the spot and is improvised so have mercy… cheers and shred till death Thanks for all the support and comments.

“Happy holiday Jam!

Hi guitar lovers

Once again a very melodic video
Have fun and Play loud!!
Everything was done just for fun and for the love of music.

As a guitar teacher i often must play the music of other people so i use my youtube channel to work on my creative
side.
I just pick up some backingtracks ,turn on the camera and then i want to see results HaHa
It’s so much fun..try it yourself
Don’t be copycats!!!

1. Intro
Some fast repeating picking licks in the Style of Petrucci
John always had an big influence on me.
The most important thing i learned is” Discipline”
My life always was focused on the guitar”

2. A very simple melody in D minor
Here i play for the first time my Petrucci musicman
I waited” one year” on this moment…

3. super melodic playing in E minor.
This melody shows my situation in the moment.
Everything is doing so well….

4.Ok things are getting a little bit faster
I love to play legato and also stringskipping.
This is improvised over the same backingtrack as melody 1.
Well i always loved legatoplaying and i must thank Joe Satriani for the inspiration.
His record Flying in a blue dream changed my life back in 1989.

5. a little rocking solo
i jammed around and this is the result.
“pretty raw stuff”

6. to end the fast playing you see me playing the amorflame guitar for the first time.

7. Back to melodic playing in Dminor
very relaxed and smooth.

8″. wishing well”
Ok sounds a little bit like steve vai but this totally improvised .

I hope you have fun with melodic guitar stuff from Germany.
Happy holidays and enjoy life
Please subscribe to show support.

cheers and all the best
Volker
